Herodotus, the first recognized Greek and Persian historian, was born in Caria, Halicarnassus and lived during the 5th century B.C. In his most famous works, The Histories, he wrote of many characters and stories that had great influence in the world more or less him. In particular he writes of a few women that make up fulfiled a role in shaping the clock before him and during his life. During Herodotus era women were second-class citizens and were not to be compared to men. Herodotus leads the readers to conceptualise that some women cause enormous implications but on the otherwise hand that women can be just as authoritative as men. Herodotus also mentions Queen Artemisia and the valor that she has when battling the Greeks in the Battle of Salamis. Lastly he mentions how a preteen girl named Gorgo is an unforeseen influence on a conclusiveness for an entire polis. In Herodotus The Histories, selected women have great influence over history, whether its by deceitful procedures, brave actions, or influence by an unforeseen character, Candauless wife, Artemisia of Caria, and young daughter Gorgo all play an important role as females in The Histories.
